My wondeful T.I.E.

Browick Infant School

We went to Browick primary to put on our T.I.E. performance, unfortunately because of the snow our group went from 5 to 3 with some of our main characters missing. We adapted our performance to work by saying other peoples lines. I think that it went surprisingly well seeing that we didn't have our main characters.

On the way there we quickly sorted out who will say which of the others lines and if we were going to take any parts out. In the end we didn't take any parts out. I think that the performance worked as we could easily say the other peoples lines and had a few friends as extras who didn't say anything to make it look like it would've done if everyone was here. It took a little bit of work to get the children to call out like they would in a normal panto but once they did they were incredibly enthusiastic. I don't think think it could've gone better as it was smooth with no mistakes and the children looked as if they enjoyed it.

Health and safety tips no. 1

There are some important health and safety things I need to consider to make sure I'm safe and I'm not abouts to take any ones eyes out around me, there are some things which are general knowledge like don't put mouth of the stuff in my mouth so I'm only going to cover the things that I could quite easily do rather than do by just being stupid. I'm going to post these as I do them in class. The points I need to consider so far are:

  • When I'm using the shoe last be careful not to trap my fingers in the hinge
  • When I'm using the craft knife use a mat and be careful so I don't slash myself

22/11/10

Period 1

We got our sketch books back and they were marked, miss stuck post sticks for us to follow so we hopefully do better in later work or ways to improve already done work. We also began the making of the shoe. We changed the design of our shoe so it could be made of slightly see through wax but this will be explained in more detail in later posts. We looked at some other non-wearable shoes and they gave me some ideas. One of them was almost persevered in a wax shoe box and this gave me the idea to have a wax shoe.

Period 2

We reviewed our campaigns and improved them. My group went and asked for our charity monster drawing to be blown up. This way we could put a big one stuck to cardboard and place it near our collection centre so that people know that they're defiantly donating to us. We also prepared a flyer to be read out in forms and an adult poster to be put up in the staff room. This poster is different to other ones as it appeals more to adults, hopefully.

Period 3

We rehearsed our performances again and showed them to the class. I think ours went well as we now all know our parts and we didn't get food thrown at us when we showed it to the class. The group leaders for the workshops with the year 2's then practiced their lessons so that they got that running smoothly. Because me and Freya aren't group leaders we used this time to make our giant Charity monster.

Overview

I feel that I got a lot done to day and with the start of the shoe and last minute changing of ideas also feel that things are really beginning to start moving. Our campaign advertising has all been completed and we are now waiting to see how many donations we get, the artifact shoe is proving more complicated than first thought so a more detailed plan is going to be need ed to make things easier, along with more health and a safety aspects.

18/11/10

Period 1

We went to the Van Dal shoe factory and learnt about the shoe making process, hopefully getting some ideas for how we could make our shoe or how to plan it. I didn't find it that interesting as it's not really something I enjoy doing but I did get a good idea for how to plan my shoe.

Period 2

We gave in our sketch books so they could be marked and we can improve on what we've done. We stuck in our freebies form the Van Dal shoe factory first though. Then we blogged our Van Dal shoe trip.

Period 3

This was an opportunity to make sure everything that we needed to have done by then was done and to perfect our Van Dal shoe factory posts.

Overview

The trip out helped me get an idea of how to plan my shoe even if I didn't enjoy it that much. I think that the extra time to get tour blogs perfect an up to date was handy to because that meant I didn't have to do it at home

Questioning small people

1)      Did you enjoy today?
2)      Did you understand about sharing and donating?
3)      Do you think that you’ll donate more to charity?
4)      Do you understand what happens when you give to charity?
5)      Do you know where your local charity shops are?
6)      Do you know what a charity is?

The way that they will answer it is by putting their hand up when they are completely happy (smiley face), sort of happy (straight face) and don't understand at all( sad face).

The girls will answer in this table (in the white boxes we will tick what they say)
 And the boys here

Fail

We didn't actually get any donations at all for our charity so to try and get some we've set up another collection date. We think that not enough people new about it and those that did didn't want to bring any in. Now we've got new and more posters with flyer's to be read out in form and the charity monster just stuck around the school just so people know about the monster. We've also got a poster to be put up in staff room so that the teachers know about it, they're more likely to bring in toys as they don't have to worry about "looking cool"

Shocks of The Benetton Group

hunger

They are a clothes company who are well known for there controversial campaigns. They do this to get publicity to there shops but most of all to get people to notice that certain things are wrong. Maybe to give to charity or just not to do certain things.  They have a massive range of campaigns, going from feed the hungry to you don't have to follow the trends.

People find these controversial because they find some of the images disgusting, they touch on matters that people find sensitive, offend people or are to rude to be shown in public. This doesn't offend some people as they aren't affected by what they're saying but some people may have lost friends to the problems the pictures show or don't believe what is on the pictures is OK for young children to see. Examples of this are the new born baby picture (picture taken within seconds of baby being born), vicar kissing a nun,  the HIV positive pictures and the anti-racism pictures.

The baby in the baby picture is covered in blood and people may find this disgusting, People say that their new born baby is the most beautiful thing they've ever seen so why is someone else's disgusting?

People find a vicar kissing a nun offensive because vicars and nuns aren't supposed to have any sexual life as they've devoted their life to god. Isn't that like saying someone isn't allowed to love someone because of their race?

The HIV positive pictures are often on a nude persons body. People may find these of a sexual nature so therefor unfit to be shown in public and you may have lost a family member to HIV and don't like the disease to be shown like it is. There are many perfume adverts of a sexual nature so why aren't they controversial?

11/11/10

Period 1

We were finishing any uncompleted work, on computers or in scetch books, and she also showed us examples of what our blogs should look like and she gave us a list of work we have to complete. Me and Elliot finished designs for our show and decided on materials for our shoe as well.

Period 2

We completed certain bits of work, this was to research an existing campaign and research it. This helped us with our work as we could see what the professionals have done.

Period 3

The Lesson was split into 2 halves.

Half 1: First the T.V. ad groups recorded their ads and we did a quick review on them. Then the       performance groups practiced theirs (that's me!). We also practiced our workshop groups to get that running smoothly.

Half 2: We went into the computer room to prepare a questionnaire to the year 2's to see how they liked our workshop with them and wrote a couple paragraphs of Theatre In Education (T.I.E.).

Overview

Today we did quite a bit of completing unfinished work or preparing for the practical work yet to come. The only thing I'm disappointed with is that we didn't really practice our performance enough.

Theatre In Education (T.I.E)

As you probably know I'm going to Browick Primary to perform a play. This is theatre in education and we have already experienced this when the Tiny Giant Theatre Company performed a play on seat belt safety to us called Perfect. This play was aimed at 14-16 year olds and attempted to get us to where seat belts by telling a true story about a young girl who was involved in a car crash. They used comedy, hard-hitting tactics and multi-rolling in their play.

We could try and incorporate comedy in ours so the children don't feel like their being bombarded by pure information and enjoy it more. If we use multi-rolling it would have to be clear that we're different people, costumes would help this, but I don't think it is needed for ours and the hard-hitting tactics may not be appropriate to the age group of primary school children as we don't want them crying. Their play did help though as it gave us a professional play to work from when we where planning ours.

Campaign successfulness

Our campaign is gojng quite successfully, it's going to be hard to judge how well we got our message across until we've got our toys collected but everything is going well at the moment, our play is well rehearsed, posters are eye-catching and leaflets are completed. Everything else needed  has been completed to date.

The Charity Monsters

The logo we designed

Our campaign is trying get parents and children to give there old toys to charity. To get them to give things away we're making them feel sorry for people without toys. We're also telling them that its Christmas so they need to clear out there old toys from there house. When we go to Browick Primary we'll do a performance about giving to charity so hopefully the children will then go home and pressure there parents into giving to charity. I'm also taking part in a workshop with the primary school to get the younger children used to sharing and giving. Posters will be put up around school and leaflets will also be given out to raise awareness. Our collection centre will be in the drama hall at Lunch on the 14th of December.

How I could be the video blogger man

I'm going to plan the format for a video journal on the campaign work we've been doing.

We're going to Browick primary school and performing so I thought we could do some kind of really quick documentary on it. It could include the getting ready for the performance and then an interview with me and the people in my performance group. We could have us saying the bits we liked and then it would go to footage of us actually performing that bit. We could also do the same for bits that we didn't like. Finally have us working with the year 2's but making sure it's a bit where we're all laughing and a voice over saying whats a happening and how we all enjoyed the day.

The only bad point I can think that might happen is it may look really cheesy and I may find difficulty getting saying what I think it should look like.

Good points are that it should be easy to put together and doesn't have to be the camera on one person for to long so you won't feel to embarrassed.

Video journal

We have been learning to be modern and creative. To help us show that we learnt how to do a video journal, whether it is just talking to a web cam or videoing what we've been doing and adding it to an interview of me saying what we've been dong to give it that expert touch.

I have actually made up a video of me making a robot costume to add to the blog but unfortunately I can't seem to upload it. It would also be handy to have lots of them because I find it hard to explain what happened in writing so this would allow me to show it more clearly. It would also be more intresting than reading everything if I can get soem real footage.
