Influences of the modern world

This post is about how our charity work has been influenced by other charities.

The Benetton Group

Their shock tactics showed me that a very affective way of capturing attention is by using something disgusting, eye-catching, different and bright colours. due to the fact that our target audience is going to be small children having something disgusting, scary or adult is definitely not the way forwards. However bright colours and new ideas will be very effective. We decided to use colourful drawings with an logo (the charity monster) that is very different from the other ones out there.

The Salvation Army
The Salvation army is christian so attracts Christians, if we showcase ourselves as being part of a certain group people that we will hopefully get them to follow us. However we will then be slightly excluding other people that aren't part of that group. They also try to make you feel sorry for the people they are trying to help. We could do this in our performance but not too sad as the children may find it to upsetting.

The Children's Society

They use evidence they have collected to inform MP's. I doubt that we could get in touch with a MP and even if we do they would really try to help. We could however try to talk to local shop owners and teachers at school to try and help us showcase our message.

Health and saftey tips no. 4

I've been using wire to make the blue toe of my shoe and the hole punch to make holes for the laces. Things I need to consider are:
  • Be careful where the end of the wire is so it doesn't go in someones eye
  • Don't punch my hand of drop the puncher on my foot
  • When cutting the wire and bending it be careful with the scissors and the pliers.

11/1/11

I'd just like to start by saying check out the date-11/1/11. Little things like dates with the same number throughout make me happy.

Period 1

We were in the computer room, but this time one filled with Macs. We looked at an example of someones work. We took notes on anything that we needed to include that we hadn't already. We also started to write a quick brief of what our campaign work includes.

Period 2

We contineud to work on our shoe and I managed to make it so that my shoe is now resembling a shoe. All that is let to do is to add the blue toe, tongue and back which I'm confident I'll be able to do next lesson

Period 3

We were back in the Mac room but this time we began to edit our Browick road footage. Me, Freya and Chloe went to record a video of us talking about our campaign, I talked about why it didn't go as well as it could have.

Overview

In Artefact I made a lot of progress as I have finally settled with one idea. Our Browick road footage should be nearly finished and ready to be uploaded to our blogs along with the Video journal of use talking about the campaign. Unfortunately that was slowed down by not being able to get the cameras to import, if they did straight away we would probably have got it up already.

Health and saftey tips no. 3

To make the mouth of my shoe I need to use air-drying clay and I used scissors to cut up the acetate along with a stapler to hold it together. To make sure I don't accidental hurt me or someone else I have to:
  • Not drop the clay bag as it is heavy
  • Be careful while using the scissors
  • Be careful while using the stapler

14/12/10

Period 1

We were in the computer room and we added new labels to our blogs so that it is easier for the marker to see which piece of work comes under which learning objectives. I also tried to upload the video of us making the big charity monster but unfortunately had to make it from scratch again and didn't have time to complete this within the lesson.

Period 2

We were working on our shoe again and I have made the mouth and began painting it. I have also made the sole along with the support for the heel, unfortunately I forgot the templates I was going to use so I couldn't get them completed but made the mouth instead. The mouth is made from air-drying clay. We also got sweets because it was our last lesson before Christmas!

Period 3

We were back in the computer room and we completed any work that we hadn't completed which involved letters to the charity shops and I also did a bit more work on the stop-motion movie I was doing in period 1. Miss also said my blog was really good!

Overview

We did a lot of finishing work today which was good because we didn't have to do it at home. I have almost managed to get back on schedule in artifact. Just a little bit behind and that's because I had to spend a lot of time trying to find a working stapler.

This is a video of a real robot

This is the video of our performance at Browick, I'm the robot. It shows how the performance came together and how we managed to cope even though we didn't have the full group that we'd been hoping for.

Health and safety tips no. 2

I wanted a bumpy texture on my shoe but doing this was going to present some health and safety hazards. To get the texture of the shoe right I had to heat the acetate. To do this Miss gave me a lighter and an iron. Obviously there are some points I need to consider, these are:

  • Be careful not to burn myself when using the lighter
  • Be careful not to let anything else in the room catch on fire
  • Don't hold the acetate when it's hot
  • Don't touch the hot side of the iron
  • Tell other people not to touch the iron when it's hot
  • Be careful with the iron whilst it's cooling down as it may still be hot
